Obituary of Gloria S. Wright

Gloria Spears Wright, a retired educator at the Southern University Laboratory School transitioned from earthly labor to heavenly reward on February 20, 2021 at the Clements University Hospital in Dallas, TX. Gloria was the youngest of six children born to the late Jefferson Davis “JD” Spears and Pearl Gilmore Spears. She was 84 years old. A Clinton, LA native, Gloria was a long time Baton Rouge resident until she was diagnosed with leukemia in late 2018. She relocated to Dallas, TX in 2019 to live with her son Jason while she underwent chemotherapy treatment. Gloria’s memory will be cherished by her loving and devoted son, Jason Wright, Dallas, TX; four loving stepchildren who she adored, Michael (Shelia) Cheatham, Clinton, LA, Wilson (Sherry) Wade, Gonzales, LA, Kim Polk, Oakland, CA, and Willie Freeman, Fairfax, VA; two brothers, Wilford (Janelle) Spears and Chester Spears, Chicago, IL; three sisters in law, Mae Ola Wright, Baton Rouge, LA, Pearl Hall Spears and Rosa Spears, Chicago, IL; three godchildren, Yolanda Chase and Lenora Coleman, Baton Rouge, LA and Byron Hall, New Orleans, LA. She is also survived by her step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gloria was predeceased by her husband Willie Wright; parents, Jefferson Davis Spears and Pearl Gilmore Spears; two sisters, Ceola Spears Collins and Jessie Spears, one brother, Charles Spears; two step children, three brothers-in-law and eight sisters in law. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Richardson Funeral Home, 11816 Jackson Street Clinton, LA, 70722. A private family graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Roselawn Memorial Park, 4045 North Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. Pastor Isaiah J. Webster of the Greater New Guide Baptist Church will officiate the service. COVID-19 restrictions will be strictly observed at both services
