Joann M Smith Obituary

JoAnn Marie Smith

September 5, 1946 – March 14, 2025

Joann Marie Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully transitioned on March 14, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born on September 5, 1946, in Jackson, Louisiana, to the late Martha Smith. Joann gave her life to Christ at an early age and carried her faith throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Smith; two sisters, Pearl Washington and Margie Butler; and her brother, Jimmy Larry Smith.

Joann spent her adult life in Baton Rouge, where she devoted herself to raising her family. She worked in the service industry and found joy in helping others. She had a deep love for music and sports, but her greatest passion was nurturing and caring for her children and grandchildren.

Joann leaves behind seven loving children: Jonathan Smith (Tracy), Carl Smith (Dafita), Kelvin Smith, Mark Smith (Zakisha), Brian Smith, Cornelius Smith (Hanni), and Ashley Smith. She is also survived by her cherished siblings: Betty Hardy, Arnold Wayne Smith, Felicia Edwards, Barbara Jean Matthews, and Paul Smith.

She leaves a lasting legacy through her nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.

A special thank you to Grace Health and Rehabilitation of Slaughter, LA, for their care and support.

Joann will be deeply missed, but her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
