Christopher Cartez Joe, affectionally known as "C. J." , was born in Baton Rouge, LA. to Altina Rena Scott and Edgar Cartez Joe on July 31, 2007. He was raised by his stepfather, Maurice Jim Jeffery Horton, who provided him with love, guidance, and unwavering support, who "C. J." regarded as his father. "C. J." transitioned from this earthly life into eternal life at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
"C. J." was baptized in childhood and later reaffirmed his faith and was baptized by Pastor Dwayne Walls at the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church #4 in Little Rock, AR.
"C. J." attended Broadmoor High School in Baton Rouge, LA and was scheduled to receive his High School diploma in May 2026. Prior to relocating to Louisiana, "C. J." played an integral role on the White Hall High School Football Team in White Hall, AR as a wide receiver. "C. J." believed in lifting others up both on and off the field. As a proud member of the Kappa League of Pine Bluff, AR, he served his community with heart, humility and intention. He poured himself into countless service projects and was always ready to teach a trail ride step to anyone who needed a little guidance. Helping others wasn't something he did - it was who he was.
"C. J." leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving mother Altina Scott of Baton Rouge, LA; father Edgar Joe of Harvey, IL; stepfather Maurice Horton of Baton Rouge, LA; two sisters: Victoria Horton of Mansfield, LA and Manayah Robinson of Livonia LA.; two brothers: Eric Joe and Anthony Joe of Baton Rouge, LA; grandparents: Pastor Sherry Scott of Baker, LA, Eddie (Mary) Joe of Baton Rouge, LA; 4 aunts; 2 uncles; 1 niece and a host of other relatives and friends.
"C. J." is preceded in death by his grandparents, Burnell Scott, Sr., Felton Horton, Juanita Ellison and brother, Tyler Horton.
