Johnny R. Dixon Obituary

Johnny Ray Dixon, Sr.

OBITUARY

It is with deep sorrow and fond remembrance that we reflect on the life of Johnny Ray Dixon, a pillar of strength and love in his community. Born on September 10, 1952, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Johnny Ray's journey on this Earth was a testament to his unwavering faith in God and his dedication to his family.

Johnny Ray's legacy is woven with threads of love and commitment. A proud graduate of West High School in Jackson, Louisiana, he excelled as a student athlete. On April 21, 1969, he embarked on a lifelong partnership with his beloved wife, Gladys Davis, a union that bore the fruits of three children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Their close-knit family was further enriched by five bonus grandchildren, creating a tapestry of love and support that defined Johnny Ray's life.

His spiritual path was integral to his being. From his baptism at Evergreen Baptist Church to his devoted service at F.T. Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, Louisiana, Johnny Ray's faith shone brightly. For over 30 years, he selflessly served on the Deacon Board, a role he undertook with pride and dedication, embodying the principles of service and compassion.

In his professional endeavors, Johnny Ray demonstrated a strong work ethic and loyalty. His tenure of over fifty years at the St. Francisville Paper Mill culminated in a role as Foreman with Hood Container Corporation, a position he cherished. His genuine care for his colleagues, whom he lovingly referred to as "his guys," was a testament to his kind and generous spirit.

Despite facing health challenges in his later years, Johnny Ray's faith remained resolute. Unable to actively participate in his church community, he found solace in the visits and calls from fellow members, maintaining his connection to the spiritual sanctuary he held dear.

Johnny Ray's interests and joys were as diverse as they were heartfelt. From his passion for sports teams like the Grambling State University Tigers and the Dallas Cowboys to his love for his mother's homemade soup and coconut pie, every aspect of his life reflected his genuine warmth and love for those around him. His favorite of all was holding his grandbabies while sitting in his recliner.
