A native of Ethel, LA was born on September 12, 1929, and passed away on March7, 2017, at St. Joseph's Hospice/The Carpenters House. She was educated in Ethel, La, and an active member of Providence #2 Baptist Church in Ethel, LA. Laura was formerly married to Leslie Harris Sr. and Curtis Johnson. She was a domestic worker, entrepreneur, and the last surviving Civil Rights Activist of the 1960's in the Baton Rouge Area. She was a Humanitarian Award winner for her Contributions of that Era. Survived by her son Lionel Harris Sr. (Lois)of the City of Central, daugther's JoAnn Stark (Allen Sr.) of Lutcher, LA, Linda Allen (Reginald) and Tammie Jones (Darryl) of B.R., LA., 26 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law Alma Sheppard and Helen Sheppard. She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Sarah Sheppard, her maternal grandparents Frank and Adline Goff, her husband's Leslie Harris Sr. and Curtis Johnson, 4 sons, 1 daughter, 2 grandchildren, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation is on Friday, March 17th from 8:00am until Religious Service at the 10:00 am at Providence #2 Baptist Church on Hwy. 19, Ethel, LA. Pastor Rodney Freeman, Officiating.
