Obituary
With great sadness, the family of Andrew Spears, Sr. announces his transition from this life on Tuesday, November 03, 2020 at the age of 77, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Spears was born to the late Eugene and Mary Spears on December 30, 1942 in Centreville, Mississippi. He attended school in Wilkinson County and graduated from Wilkinson County High School. He served in the U.S. Army, actively in the Vietnam War. He was employed at the Geismar Nuclear Plant in Geismar, Louisiana and as a strapper at Georgia Pacific in Gloster, Mississippi until he retired in 2009.
During a weekend visit of one of his sister’s college friends, Mr. Spears was introduced to Christine Toney and the two were united in Holy Matrimony July 06, 1967, three months later. To this beautiful union four children were born: Courtni (Calvin) Huff of McComb, MS; Andrew Spears, Jr. of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Andre (Tamm) Spears of Prairieville, Louisiana; and Chatina (Danny) Martin of Raymond, MS. He was not only a loving father, but also “Granddaddy” in every essence of the word to Christopher (Precious) Huff; Nicholas Spears; Andre (Ke) Spears; Khirstian, Khimual, and Charrington Huff; Tia and Tamia Spears; and a great-granddaddy to Presleigh Eulise Meadious and Carleigh Alise Huff.
Even though life was going well for the couple, God had something much better planned. In 1982, Mr. Spears was introduced to the Baptism in Jesus’ Name with the infilling of the Holy Ghost, and he received both at Vaughn Chapel, a small church in Centreville MS. After this unique experience, life was not the same. During his continued walk with Christ, he served as a minister at his local church before he and his wife became members of Greater Bethlehem Temple Church in Jackson, MS under the leadership of Bishop Robert Fortson, Sr., where he served in the Bishop’s Choir and the Five-Five Alive Ministry.
Things Mr. Spears loved to do included studying the Word of God, attending church services, walking and sitting in his yard, and singing.
Mr. Spears leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Channie (Edward Sr.) Walker of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Dorothy (Bobby) Harris of Brookhaven, MS; and Emma Thomas of Centreville, MS.
Mr. Spears is preceded in death by his wife, Christine T. Spears; grandson, Allen Jacobi Spears; his mother and father; three brothers, Elliot Patterson, Sr; Eugene Spears, Jr.; and Willie Lee Spears, Sr.; two sisters, Lillie Jordan and Edna Harris.
