In Loving Memory
For
Helen Shropshire
Helen left so suddenly, we didn't get a chance to say goodbye.
In disbelief, I'm writing this poem, trying hard not to cry.
We've been friends so long, I can barely count the years.
I find comfort in the good times, to hold back the tears.
Early on, whether on the bus, the playground, my house or even band.
Arm in arm, we went, Helen always had a plan.
Reading books, braiding hair, switching up clothes.
And how she talked me into singing, only God in heaven knows.
We have shared so much, being friends from our youth.
I could count on Helen, to always tell me the truth.
From conversations going on and on, catching up, not missing a beat.
To holiday messages and late night calls, when she couldn’t sleep.
I can’t forget, the love for her family that ran deep in her heart,
Colette was her pride and joy, and the biggest part.
Loyal, protector, nurturer...character held dear.
Kind, Intelligent, creative....traits kept near.
“A friend loves at all times.” is what the bible says.
While iron sharpens iron are the visions in my head.
I'll cherish all the fond memories left behind
I'll forever hold them close in my heart and my mind.
So, I won't say farewell, my friend, although it's time, I know.
Your friendship was a blessing and I am sad to see you go.
Our bond won’t end here, though you left this old world.
I'll simply close, as you often did, by saying, “I love you girl!”
Your Friend,
Linda Harrell McGraw
