Shirley was like an Aunt to me when I was growing up. Our families spent a lot of time together. My fondest memories are her sense of humor especially during family functions, and her commitment in service to the Church Usher and Choir Ministries. We would commiserate over asthma challenges, but always found a bright side. Which makes me reflect on two of the most notable songs she used to lead: The Holy Ghost and Bright Side
“The Holy Ghost”
It was early one morning, just about the break of day,
Jesus touched me and He washed my sins away
I started running, I started shouting,
I found no time to doubt Him, I tell you I've got nothing but the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost, moving down in my soul!
and
“There’s a Bright Side Somewhere”
When in your way seems dark an drear, you don't have to worry cause God is near
If in your heart there is no song just keep the faith a keep holding on
Turn your face down, fast and pray Jesus will always make a way
There’s a bright side somewhere
